DEBORAH L. WILSON

IN MEMORY OF DEBORAH L. WILSON

1964-2023

Springman, Braden, Wilson & Pontius, P.C. will deeply miss its Managing Partner, Deborah L. Wilson. Deborah left us peacefully on May 5, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer. Deborah was an exemplary lawyer, possessed a brilliant legal mind, and was a leader in the legal community. She was also a friend and mentor to her colleagues and fought fearlessly to pursue her client’s causes for over a quarter century.

Debbie received an undergraduate degree from UCLA and a Juris Doctorate from the University of  Denver School of Law. After law school, Debbie clerked for the Honorable Judge Charles Thompson and practiced law in Las Vegas before returning to Denver, and joining Springman, Braden, Wilson, and Pontius, P.C. in 1997. Throughout her career she was active in trade associations and other various organizations dedicated to education, training, and advocacy on behalf of Community Associations, Landlords and Mobile Home Communities. Debbie was an elected member of the Board of the Colorado Creditor Bar Association, is a graduate of the Colorado Institute of Leadership Training, and is the former chairperson for the National American Bar Association GP/Solo Real Property Group. She was considered by the legal community to be a leading expert on Fair Housing Laws and in matters affecting Mobile Home Communities and frequently testified before the Colorado Legislature on matters affecting the housing industry.

Debbie received many awards during her career, including the 2022 Hale Davenport Housing Carrier Award from Rocky Mountain Home Association, the 2021-22 Exceptional Volunteerism Medal and the Sword of the Truth Award from the Apartment Association of Metro Denver (“AAMD”).  She was named AAMD Person of the Year in 2021.  In 2020 Debbie received the Crushing Curve Balls out of the Park Award from AAMD and the Colorado Apartment Association (“CAA”).  Debbie was honored in 2020 with AAMD’s highest award with her induction into the AAMD Hall of Fame. In 2019 she received the Going to Bat for the Apartment Industry from AAMD/CAA, and the 2018 June Person of the Month by the AAMD.  Debbie was also a fierce advocate for the collections industry and received the David Michael Award in 2018 for outstanding leadership in the field of Creditor’s Rights.  Debbie was also recognized as one of Denver’s best lawyers by 5280 Magazine, receiving its Top Lawyer designation 2017-2022.

Springman, Braden, Wilson & Pontius, P.C. is proud to have been associated with Debbie for the last twenty-six years.  She was one of the most respected attorneys in the business.  Debbie’s vision, passion, advocacy for, and dedication to, our clients will continue to guide our firm. The remaining partners, legal assistants, and staff members look forward to continuing to provide service to the housing industry and quality legal services for our clients. We remain dedicated to advocating for landlords, property management companies and community associations.
